Flash! is a full-featured learning aid for the Pilot, based on the concept of flash cards. Its "learning" mode conforms to the latest learning research by quizzing you on a personal schedule that adapts to the difficulty you have learning each individual fact; in "quiz" mode you can evaluate your progress. Supports full on-pilot editing capabilities and import of databases from MemoPad; BrainForest and ThoughtMill (via memopad); and Jtutor(directly; see archive of Jtutor databases, although that seems to be currently "under construction" and your milage may vary).Quiz yourself on the honor system or using multiple choice.
Flash is shareware, from homunculus software. Half of all the (monetary)
income I get from Flash goes to charity (which charity differs; generally,
ones dealing with the issues of low-income education and hunger in the US
and abroad [note for 2001: I am in Chiapas for the year and
so to make things simple it all goes to the AFSC]. If you have a charity
you want your money to go to, or you have more questions, let me know). Registration
also gets you access to the source codeif you desire. There are many
options for registering it:
(The fact that I give away money and give you options does
not mean I don't care about money. Flash! is a labor of love, and I want to
give people breaks for their labors of love; I don't just want postcards.
Evaluate, then register or delete.)
If you have a Flash! deck you want to share with others, send it to me; I'll put it up. .zip format works best. This request has been up for a while, and a lot of people have said they *will* send me something, but so far nobody has. So to make it easy for you, I'll let you anonymously FTP stuff to homunculus.dragonfire.net. Please, don't abuse this; upload only .pdb files, preferably in zipped form, and then email to tell me you've uploaded, or whatever it is will just gather dust in my /inbound directory. Similarly, if you're putting up a Flash! deck on your own web site, please let me know so I can link to it.
